Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim took on the office of President and Chief Executive Officer (“PCEO”) of Johor Corporation (“JCorp”) on 9 January 2020. Leading up to this position, he played an integral role in building the strong legacy of JCorp as he was previously Head of Corporate Planning at the Johor State Economic and Development Corporation (JSDC) – the predecessor of JCorp, from 1989 to 1992, after nearly a decade in the banking industry. 

With 40 illustrious years of industry experience and a track record of leading profitability and growth both globally and in Malaysia, as well as executive expertise that include banking, real estate & catalytic developments, technology, corporate and business strategy modelling, Datuk Syed Mohmamed is determined to propel JCorp into its next phase of being a corporation with the identity of sustainable revenue growth. He brings knowledge and a history of transformational leadership that foster a corporate culture of learning from the foundations of the past, thereon progressing to usher a new era at JCorp. 

Over the years, Datuk Syed Mohamed has built solid enduring relationships with the Johor State and Federal Government-linked companies. This would serve JCorp well given its unique and diversified spectrum of businesses, and its vision to boost both the state and national economies. With a list of successes in creating strategic property investment opportunities in Iskandar Malaysia and attracting both reputable international and domestic partners, there is every confidence that Datuk Syed Mohamed will help achieve the transformative objectives of JCorp and significant economic growth for the State of Johor. 

Prior to JCorp, he was Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, who led strategy and business development at Knowledge Economic City in Medina, Saudi Arabia. He also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Iskandar Investment Berhad. Formerly, as Group Director at DRB-Hicom Berhad, he led business transformation teams for the group’s property development, hospitality and leisure, construction and facility management portfolio. During his leadership as CEO of TH Properties Sdn Bhd from 2004 to 2008, Datuk Syed Mohamed made significant achievements in advocating sustainable growth in revenue and profits for the company, namely with its landmark project of Bandar Baru Enstek, a smart township property development in Negeri Sembilan. He also led the Encorp Group Sdn Bhd in Corporate Planning and Properties after 7 years at Sime Darby, where he led the company’s Property Division as General Manager. 

In line with the vision of JCorp to become a regional mover of economic and national growth, building a strong and respected culture of corporate governance is imperative to its organisation. Datuk Syed Mohamed’s experience in leading a robust corporate strategy portfolio, coupled with a strong foundation in organisational development with private, state and government entities locally and internationally is helping JCorp realise this vision to greater heights. Datuk Syed Mohamed earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (Honours) in Analytical Economics from University Malaya before pursuing his Executive Education in Management at Harvard Business School.
